Spend your Venmo money easily with Apple Pay
PDF download Download Article

If you use Venmo often, you may be wondering if it's possible to connect your Venmo account to your Apple Wallet. While you cannot connect your Venmo directly to your Apple Wallet, there are two simple workarounds: using a Venmo debit card with Apple Wallet, or transferring your money from your Venmo account into your Apple Cash card, which is free to use with Apple Pay. In this article, we'll teach you how to do each of these methods so you can start spending your Venmo balance.

Quick Steps

  1. Apply for a Venmo debit card or credit card.
  2. Open Wallet.
  3. Tap +.
  4. Tap Debit or Credit Card.
  5. Enter your card details.
  6. Wait for verification.

Adding Venmo to Apple Wallet

  1. Apply for a Venmo debit card if you don't have one already. Venmo has two options for physical cards: a debit card that pulls from your Venmo balance, and a credit card. Apple Wallet is now accepting both.
    • If you're approved for a Venmo debit card, it will arrive within ten business days.[1]
  2. This app should be pre-installed on your iPhone, and the icon looks like a gray wallet with multicolored cards on a black background.

  3. This will begin adding a new card to your Apple Wallet.
  4. Your phone's camera should activate to easily add your card.
  5. Alternatively, you can click Enter Card Details Manually to manually type in the card number, expiration date, and security code.
  6. This should only take a few moments, and once it completes, your Venmo debit card will be added to Apple Wallet and can be used anywhere Apple Pay is accepted.
    • Note that the Venmo debit card pulls from your Venmo balance, so you must have a Venmo balance to use the card.

Moving Money from Venmo to Apple Cash

  1. You can move money from Venmo to Apple Cash if you have them both connected to the same bank account via a debit card.
  2. You can get there by tapping the Me icon in the lower-right corner and then selecting the cog wheel button in the upper-right corner.
  3. All of your payment methods connected to your Venmo account will be shown.
  4. You can skip ahead if the bank account you want to use as an intermediary is already listed here. Otherwise, follow the on-screen instructions to add your bank account to Venmo.
  5. You can do an instant transfer, which takes a small fee, or a bank transfer. Note that if you do a bank transfer, the money will not be available to add to Apple Cash for a few business days.
  6. All of your available payment methods will be visible, including Apple Cash.
  7. Your current Apple Cash balance will be visible.
  8. This will bring up a menu of Apple Cash options.
  9. If you have a bank account connected to your Apple Cash, it will be visible here. If it's the same bank account as the one connected to your Venmo, you won't need to re-add it.
  10. Follow the on-screen prompts to add your bank account to your Apple Cash card. Ensure it's the same account that is connected to your Venmo account.
  11. A screen will pop up asking how much money you want to add to your Apple Cash. The minimum amount you can add is $10.
  12. The Add button is in the upper-right corner.
  13. While it's not the same as adding Venmo directly to your Apple Pay, you can use this method to move money from your Venmo account to your Apple Wallet without needing a Venmo debit card.[2]

Troubleshooting

PDF download Download Article
  1. You can't add a Venmo account to Apple Wallet; you can only add the approved Venmo debit card or credit card. You can check your card's status in the Venmo app.
  2. In order to transfer money between Venmo and Apple Wallet, you'll need money on your card. Lack of funds may also prevent your card being added.
    • If you're trying to add a Venmo credit card, make sure your card's balance isn't maxed out.
  3. The issue may be with the Apple Wallet app itself. Since this is a built-in app, you'll need to check for updates on your iPhone.
