What Are the Big 3 Anime?

If you talk to anime fans, you’ll probably hear them mention something called “The Big 3.” These are a trio of iconic, classic anime that aired at about the same time, and which every anime fan of a certain age knows. But depending on who you talk to, the Big 3 might be a little different.

The Original Big 3:

  • One Piece: An epic pirate fantasy about a young man who dreams of becoming the pirate king by finding hidden treasure known as the “One Piece.”
  • Naruto: A young ninja student dreams of becoming Hokage of his village and a leader that everyone admires, but sinister forces are at work behind the scenes.
  • Bleach: A high school student is pulled into a game of souls when spirits known as “hollows” begin attacking his town and a mysterious reaper shows him how to fight them.

Contenders for the New Big 3:

  • My Hero Academia: A young boy who dreams of becoming a superhero inherits the powers of All Might, the world’s greatest hero. But his powers come with a catch.
  • Jujutsu Kaisen: In a world of curses and people who wield them, one young man becomes possessed by a powerful entity that he must quickly learn to control.
  • Demon Slayer: When his family is ruthlessly murdered by demon, a young man must train to become a demon hunter like no other.
  • Chainsaw Man: A loner makes a pact with the Chainsaw Devil and becomes a rampaging force of destruction, when all he really wants is a stable family situation.
  • Black Clover: In a world of magic, one young man fights the power by having no power at all. Well, at least, he has the power to negate power. Is that a power?
