Wouldn’t they just run out and get everywhere? We had to get to the bottom of this one, so we did a deep dive into the videos. We’re explaining exactly what the “polka dot pan for eggs” trend is, how it started, and whether you can really use these pans for eggs. The video captions are either sarcastic humor or intentional rage-bait.

Several TikTok videos show someone cleaning a polka dot “egg pan.” The videos are ASMR cleaning videos of someone deep-cleaning a pan filled with holes (or “polka dots”). For instance, this video from @CrazyClean01 from July 3, 2025, is captioned, “That’s a great egg pan.” It’s the earliest polka dot egg pan video we could find. After the pan is clean, the creator puts it right on the stove and cracks an egg into the pan so the egg runs down into the eye of the stove.
- This video from @the_ronskaa from July 27, 2025, is captioned “POV: you found a polka dot pan for eggs.” This ASMR cleaning video has nearly 14 million views on TikTok. At the end of the video, she cracks an egg into the polka dot pan (placed over another pan), but the viewer does not see the egg cooking or finished.
  - A similar video from @the_ronskaa from August 19, 2025, is captioned “POV: you found a polka dot pan for eggs.”
  - Similarly, this video from @the_ronskaa from August 28, 2025, is captioned, “pan for polka dot omelette,” and this video from September 9 has the caption “Polka dot pan for eggs from the thrift store.”

No, pans with holes in them are not intended for cooking eggs. The pans in the “polka dot pan” videos are not egg pans. They’re technically called perforated pans, and they’re typically intended for roasting chestnuts or cooking vegetables over a grill.^{[1]

How to Make a Polka Dot Omelet

You can make a polka-dot omelet by cutting small circles into your eggs. If you want to make a “polka dot omelet” for real, there’s no need for a perforated pan! Just separate the egg whites and yolks of several eggs—around 3 should be enough, but you can use more if you want. Whisk the yolks together well, then pour them into a skillet on medium-low heat.
- While the yolks are cooking, whisk together the egg whites and pour them into a small squeeze bottle. (You can also use a plastic sandwich bag—just clip the tip off when you’re ready to pipe in the eggs.)
- Once the yolks are cooked, use a small circle-shaped cookie cutter (or another round tool) to cut circles from the yolk. Remove the circles you cut out and set them aside.
- Fill the holes in the yolk with the egg whites from the squeeze bottle.
- Let the omelet continue cooking until the egg whites are done, then serve and enjoy.
- Note: This will make a yellow omelet with white polka dots. If you’d rather make a white omelet with yellow polka dots, just reverse the process—cook the whites first, then pipe in the yolk.
