YouTube Shorts is a short-form vertical video feature available on the YouTube app and website. It was introduced in 2020 to compete with TikTok.[1]
[2]
Over the years, YouTube Shorts has faced criticism, mainly for being prioritised over regular videos and for taking up more space across the app and website, including the home page, subscriptions page, and especially search results.
Recently, YouTube announced an option that lets users filter out Shorts and view only regular videos in search results.[3]
This wikiHow article will help you learn how to use that option.
Steps
-
1Launch the YouTube app on your Android device. The YouTube icon looks like a white play button on a red rectangle and can be found in your app drawer. Logging in is not required.
- Make sure you are using the latest version of the app. If not, update it from the Google Play Store before continuing.
-
2Search for something. Tap the search icon in the top right corner of the screen, then type a keyword.Advertisement
-
3Tap the ⋮ icon. This is located in the top right corner of the app. A list of options will appear.
-
4Tap Search filters. This is the first option in the “more” menu. The search filters pop-up will then open.
-
5Tap the All option next to the “Type” heading. A drop-down menu will then appear.
-
6Select Videos from the drop-down menu. By default, this option is set to “All”.
-
7Tap the Apply button. This is located in the bottom right corner of the search filters menu.
-
8Know that once you tap “Apply”, short videos will be removed from your search results. However, this is not a permanent solution. You will need to use the filter option every time you search to hide Shorts.
-
1Open YouTube on the web. To do this, go to www.youtube.com in your web browser. You do not need to log in to follow this method. It works whether you are logged in or logged out.
-
2Search for something. Click the search box at the top, type your keywords, and press Enter.
-
3Click the Filters button. This is located at the top right, below your profile icon. The “Search filters” menu will pop up.
-
4Click the Videos option under the “Type” heading. The search results page will reload without Shorts.
-
5Scroll through your search results without Shorts appearing between regular videos or in the Shorts tab. That’s it!
