The Clans of Pandora

There are several different Na’Vi clans that appear in the Avatar films and/or video games set in the Avatar universe, but here’s a breakdown of a few of the most notable ones:

  • Omatikaya: The main clan introduced in the first Avatar film. The Omatikaya are skilled warriors and hunters who pride themselves on protecting their home in the rainforest. They are also deeply spiritual and community-oriented.[1]
  • Metkayina: A clan that lives among the reefs of Pandora. The lifestyle of the Metkayina Clan revolves around the rhythms of the waters, and they’re known for having peaceful relations with their neighboring clans.[2]
  • Tayrangi: This clan lives among the coastal cliffs near Pandora’s Eastern Sea region, and they’re extremely skilled at Banshee flight, diving, and fishing.[3]
  • Tawkami: A clan of peaceful botanists who have a very strong understanding of their rainforest biome. They know how to use plants to create various tonics and elixirs that can heal wounds, cure illness, direct animal behavior, and even provide spiritual guidance.[4]
  • Olangi: This clan inhabited the Plains region, located near the Omatikayan Hometree, and they were known for their bravery and their focus on the Direhorse.[5]
  • Zeswa: This clan is boisterous and loud, but also loving. They’re known for skill in riding Direhorses, and for their war-like competitions and extravagant celebrations.[6]
  • Sarentu: A nomadic clan of travelling storytellers that lived among different clans as if they were members, learning about the customs and ways of each. They were also known as travelling diplomats.[7]
  • Aranhe: An intellectual and sophisticated clan known for its stylishness and enjoyment of the arts, especially the weaving of the fine silk of the Kinglor.[8]
  • Mangkwan: Also known as the Ash People, this clan is known for its connection to fire and its apparent disconnect from nature and the deity Eywa. They will be introduced in Avatar: Fire and Ash, so not much is known about them yet.[9]
