Do you want to delete something posted on your Facebook profile? You can remove posts and comments by moving them to trash or instantly deleting them (depending on who made the post). In this article, we’ll explain how to delete or hide posts and comments from your own profile, a Page you manage, or a Group. We’ll also explain how to manage posts once they’re moved to the trash.
Quick Steps to Delete a Post from Your Profile
- Go to your profile and find the post you want to delete.
- Click or tap ⋯ at the top right corner of the post.
- Select Move to trash or Delete. Which option you see depends on whether you made the post or someone else did.
Steps
Deleting Posts from Your Profile (Mobile)
-
Go to your Facebook profile. You can do this by tapping your profile picture at the top of your feed (next to “What’s on your mind?”), or by tapping ☰ (at the bottom right on iPhone/iPad or the top right on Android), then tapping your name.
-
Find the post you want to delete. You can delete any post that you or another user posted directly on your profile page.
- You can't delete posts from other people in which you are tagged, but you can remove them from your page. Similarly, if you're on another person's page, you can only delete a post that you made on their page.
- For certain types of Facebook accounts, you may have the option to Manage posts. It’s near the top of your profile, just above your posts. You can filter posts by date, type, placement (i.e., your feed or your groups), and more to help you narrow your search for a specific post.
- Find the post you want, tap on it, then tap the ••• icon at the top right corner of the Post insights page. Tap See original post, then proceed with this method to delete or hide the post.

Tap ⋯. It's in the top-right corner of a post.
- A pop-up menu will open.
-
Tap Move to trash or Delete. This will be towards the bottom of the menu.
- Whether you see Move to trash or Delete depends on a variety of factors, such as how you accessed the post (i.e., directly from your profile or via the Manage your posts option) or who made the post (you or someone else).
- If you're removing your name from a tagged post, you'll instead tap Remove tag and then tap OK (or CONFIRM on Android) when prompted.[1]
- Want to hide the post without deleting it? You have a few options:
- Select Hide from profile if the post was made by someone else. This will remove the post from your profile, but won’t delete it from Facebook.
- If you made the post, you can select Move to archive to remove it from your profile without deleting it. Access archived posts by going to ⋯ at the top of your profile > Activity Log > Archive. Tap ⋯ next to an archived post to see your options (including Restore to profile and Move to trash).
- You can also change the privacy settings on posts you made. To hide a post from everyone but yourself, select Edit privacy > Only me. Tap Save.
-
Tap Move. This will remove the post from your profile. Any likes, comments, or other media associated with the post will also be removed.
- Posts in the trash will automatically be deleted after 30 days. If you want to delete it immediately, do the following:
- Go to your profile.
- Tap ⋯ below your profile picture.
- Tap Activity Log.
- Tap Trash.
- Tap ⋯ next to the deleted post.
- Tap Delete. You can also tap Restore to profile to un-delete the post.
- If someone else made the post on your profile, or if you accessed the post via the Manage your posts menu, tap Delete > Delete instead. The post will be permanently deleted from your profile, and you won’t be able to restore it like you would with a post that’s recently been moved to the trash.
- Posts in the trash will automatically be deleted after 30 days. If you want to delete it immediately, do the following:
