Prevent other people from seeing what you buy on Amazon
PDF download Download Article

Want to make sure your friend or family member can't see your order history on Amazon? If you share an Amazon account with someone, it's hard to buy them holiday gifts (or buy yourself something private) without your friend or family member knowing. Even though you can no longer delete your order history on Amazon, there are still ways to hide your Amazon orders and shop discreetly in the future. Read on to learn the best ways to keep your Amazon orders private, including clearing your Amazon browsing history, setting up Amazon Family, and even preventing Alexa devices from disclosing what you've ordered.

How can I delete my order history on Amazon?

Amazon no longer lets you delete your order history. To keep orders private, family members will need to have separate Amazon accounts. Even with individual accounts, you can still share Prime benefits, such as free shipping and shared payment methods, with other members of your household using Amazon Family.

How to Delete Your Order History

  1. It used to be really easy to archive your past orders to hide them, but Amazon has removed this feature. If you share an Amazon account with a family member, Amazon now recommends maintaining separate profiles in Amazon Family to keep your order history private.[1]
  2. If you've archived orders in the past, you can still find them in your order history. This can be helpful if you need to make a return or get support. To find an archived order:
    • In the Amazon mobile app, tap the menu and select Orders. If you're using a computer, click Returns & Orders at the upper-right corner of Amazon.
    • Search for the item you ordered using the "Search all orders" field at the top of the page.[2]
    • If you don't remember the name of any products in your order, you can filter your orders by time period to show all orders (including those you've archived) in your order history.

How to Clear Amazon Browsing History

  1. If you don't want people you share an account with to see what products you've looked at, you can clear your browsing history. To open your browsing history:
    • In the Amazon mobile app, tap the profile icon at the bottom, scroll down to the "Keep shopping for" section, and then tap Edit just beneath it.
    • On a computer, go to amazon.com/gp/history.
  2. If you only want to remove an item or two from your browsing history, just tap the X on the product (in the mobile app), or click Remove from view (on a computer) on the item. If you want to clear your entire browsing history on Amazon, continue with this method.
  3. If you're using a web browser on a computer, you can clear your entire Amazon browsing history. To get started, go to your browsing history and click the gear icon.
  4. This instantly clears your entire Amazon browsing history.
  5. If you don't want Amazon to log the items you've browsed, you have some options:
    • Pause your browsing history for Today, 3 Days, 1 week, or 2 weeks by selecting the corresponding button.
    • To turn off your browsing history permanently, click or tap More settings and toggle the "Browsing History" switch to Off.

How to Keep Order History Private

  1. Add household members to your Amazon Family. If you subscribe to Amazon Prime, Amazon Family allows you to share all your Prime benefits (including free shipping, Amazon Grocery, and even digital content if you choose to share it) with family members without sharing the same username and password. Every adult account will have its own private order history that cannot be seen by anyone else in the family. Each Amazon Family can contain up to 2 adults (18+), up to 4 teenagers (13-17, only if added prior to April 2025), and up to 4 children.[3]
    • To add family members, go to amazon.com/myh/manage in a web browser.
    • Click Add Adult or Add a Child.
    • Enter the name and email address (or phone number) of the person you want to add to invite them to your family.
    • If adding an adult, they'll be prompted to sign in with their Amazon account if they have their own, or create a new one if they don't.
    • Even though each user in your family will use their own Amazon account to sign in, you can still choose to share a payment method.
    • To share (or not share) digital content like Kindle books, audiobooks, and purchased apps and games, select Sharing.

How to Hide Orders from Alexa

  1. If you have an Echo or another Alexa device, it'll alert you when you receive an Amazon package—even if the package is delivered to a different address or Amazon Locker. And if someone in your home asks Alexa about your recent orders, it'll tell them exactly what you bought! To turn these features off:
    • Open the Alexa app and tap More (the 3 lines at the bottom).[4]
    • Tap Settings.
    • Tap Notifications.
    • Select Amazon Shopping.
    • Under "Let Alexa say or show titles for items you've ordered", toggle off "Items in your shopping basket marked as gifts, or those that might be gifts during major holidays."
    • Toggle off "For items in delivery updates".

How to Hide Amazon Deliveries

  1. Amazon Pickup allows you to have your Amazon order shipped to another location, such as an Amazon counter in a Whole Foods store, an Amazon Locker, an Amazon counter at a participating retailer, and some UPS Stores. Choosing a Pickup location is especially great for your own discreet purchases, though they'll also come in handy for Christmas and birthday gifts. If you buy qualifying items sold or fulfilled by Amazon.com, you'll see the Pickup option at checkout.[5]
    • Your order is eligible for Amazon Locker if it's smaller than 10 lbs, smaller than 16 x 12 x 14 inches, and has a total value of less than $5000.
    • Amazon counters (such as the ones at Whole Foods) can accommodate larger packages up to 33 lbs and up to 36 x 24 x 24 inches.
    • You can select a UPS Store if the item value is less than $5000 and smaller than 38 x 38 x 38 inches.
