Creative Contact Names For an Ex

  1. Your ex is your ex for a reason; there’s no need to give them the grace of a kind name (unless you two are still friends, in which case you should just change their name to their first and last name). Instead, get creative and come up with a name that embodies some of their relationship-breaking qualities. Or, use one of these creative nicknames:
    • Past Life
    • One of Many Regrets
    • My Favorite Mistake
    • The Lying King 🦁
    • Mistake #1
      • If they aren’t your first ex, swap the number out for wherever they fall in your list of past lovers.
    • My Biggest Lesson.
    • Not My Problem Anymore

Should you delete your ex's contact info from your phone?

PDF download Download Article
  1. Heide says the best approach is just to block and delete your ex from your contacts and all social media so you aren’t tempted to reach out to them. However, if you have to keep them in your phone because you're co-parenting or still working through your separation but seeing their name is triggering, try giving them a name like “Almost Done” or “Their Father” as a way to neutralize their effect on you.[7]
    • She also suggests mental tricks like telling yourself that communicating with them is equal to poking yourself in the eye with a fork. “Every time you feel compelled to seek them out, remind yourself that it's illogical to poke yourself in the eye,” she explains.[8]
